When planning your new kitchen, one of your largest concerns may be cost. Finding savings is key.

Perhaps the best way to save is to measure your existing kitchen yourself. This is not a difficult process, and it helps cut the costs of remodeling your kitchen.

There are just a few easy steps to measuring your kitchen. Here is a brief how-to that will help you get started.

Step 1 :: Right Click here and choose the "Save Target As..." or "Save Link As..." option to download the KSI Kitchen Layout Grid, then print it. You will need the Adobe Acrobat Reader.

Step 2 :: Measure your existing space. As you measure, mark the measurements and draw on your grid.

  • Be sure to measure twice, so all your measurements are as accurate as possible.
  • Establish a consistent starting point from which to begin measuring. This should be a corner. Then begin measuring around the room.
  • Measure window and door locations from the outsides of door and window trim.
  • Continue measuring around the room.
  • After you finish your walls, measure your cabinets, moving around the room from your starting point. Measure your appliances and sink from their centers to a corner.
  • Note each appliance type and height.
  • Measure your ceiling height.
  • Measure your soffits (area between your overhead cabinets and ceiling).
  • Note flooring type on your grid.

Step 3 :: Visit your local KSI showroom and a KSI designer. You'll have the opportunity to see your new kitchen designed by our 20-20 Computer Design System.
